National Black Maternal Health Week

ROOTED IN JUSTICE & JOY

This annual week-long observance, led by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, raises awareness, advocates, and activates the community to improve maternal health outcomes for Black mothers.

This year’s theme, “Rooted in Justice & Joy,” celebrates the leadership and expertise of Black community-based organizations as the foundation for advancing equity and ensuring transformative, sustainable improvements in Black Maternal Health through Collective Action. Collective action is key to improving maternal health outcomes, and highlights the essential role of collaboration between Black-led organizations, advocates, and communities to shape policies and amplify solutions.

    Join us for the 3rd AnnualHeart, Sole & Roll 5k Community Stroll, a joyful celebration during Black Maternal Health Week on April 11, 2026. Guided by this year's theme, Rooted in Justice & Joy, this gathering will take place in the heart of North Omaha, utilizing the North Omaha Trail to uplift wellness, honor maternal health, and strengthen community bonds through movement and togetherness.

    Registration check-in begins at 8:30 AM.

  • Film Screening: Listen to Me

    Listen to Me is a documentary that explores the voices of Black women, through first-person stories, as they navigate pregnancy, birth, and care in America, highlighting challenges in maternal health, while honoring the strength, grief, joy, and resilience of their stories.

    Kicking off at the Heart, Sole, & Roll 5K Community Stroll, this drive will support IBBG’s Annual Community Baby Shower held during Black Maternal Health Week.

We invite you to volunteer at IBBG's 3rd Annual Heart, Sole & Roll 5k Community Stroll, a joyful celebration kicking off Black Maternal Health Week on April 11th from 8 AM - 12 PM. Guided by this year's theme, Rooted in Justice & Joy, this signature event will take place in the heart of North Omaha to uplift wellness, honor maternal health, and strengthen community bonds through movement and togetherness.

The event will kick off at the Anarcha Center, and utilize the North Omaha Trail.

There are a variety of ways you could assist:

  • Set Up  Crew - 8:00 AM -10:00 AM: This shift assists with getting all the necessary items ready for the walk/run.

  • Registration - 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM: This shift will check in walk/run participants, gathering waivers, and ensuring participants who do not consent to photographs, receive a red sticker.

  • Trail Champions/Runners - 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM: Ensuring participants have what they need on the trail, including navigating the trail, and knowing where activities are.

  • Kids Corner Assistance - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: This shift assists with the activities available to the children in attendance

  • Clean Up - 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: This shift assists with break down, and trash pick up.
